What mattresses do hotels use? Here's how to bring that five-star feeling back to your bedroom
I spent hours searching the sites of some of the world's best luxury hotels, from the Ritz-Carlton to the Four Season, to find out which mattress type they use

As the resident Sleep Editor at Homes & Gardens, I'm often asked: 'what mattresses do hotels use?' Following a particularly restorative stay last summer, I found myself asking the same question. I wanted to know why my hotel mattress felt so much better than my bed at home.
I've been lucky enough to sample some of the world's best mattresses from specialist sleep stores, but I always sleep better on vacation: in part, because I'm more relaxed, but it's a testament to the quality of a good hotel mattress. If you know where to shop, you can bring that five-star feeling back to your own bedroom.
What mattresses do hotels use? A sleep editor investigates
I've rounded up a few of my favorite mattresses from luxury hotels, including the Marriott and the Mandarin Oriental. Consider the collection of memory foam models and robust innersprings to get hotel-quality sleep at home.
1. Soho House
This luxury innerspring marks a collaboration between the iconic members club, Soho House, and the award-winning mattress makers, Hypnos, which has held the Royal Warrant since 1929. Founded on supportive springs, individually pocketed to minimize motion transfer, and topped with moisture-wicking wool, the Soho House x Hypnos Exclusive Mattress is fit for a King.
2. The Marriott
The Marriott partners with a wide range of mattress manufacturers, from Simmons to Sealy, to sleep their guests, but their house bed is the Marriott Mattress. This is a hybrid mattress, founded on stainless steel coils and topped with plush memory foam to suit all sleep styles. There's just enough give to cushion your joints and plenty of support to keep your spine aligned.
3. The Ritz-Carlton
4. Four Seasons
5. Westin
The Westin Heavenly Bed recently relaunched in line with years of research into which mattress type is most comfortable for the greatest number of people. Westin reviewed over 4,000 prototypes before settling on the design for the Next Generation Westin Heavenly Bed: a luxury innerspring, woven with silver fibers to wick away moisture and bust bacteria.
6. Sofitel
7. The Kimpton
8. The Mandarin Oriental
The Mandarin Oriental Mattress features custom fabric ticking with the Mandarin Oriental fan front and center. Sure, you won't be able to see it through the mattress protector, but you'll know it's there, and you'll feel the same plush comfort you get from a Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
9. The Hilton
Manufactured by Serta and made in the USA, the Hilton Mattress is seriously supportive and shockingly affordable for a hotel mattress. You get a high coil count for uninterrupted spine support, reinforced around the edges, so it's easier to get into and out of bed, all for a little more than $1,500.
10. W Hotels Mattress
W Hotels stocks two types of mattress to suit different sleep positions: the Pillow Top is most suitable for back and side sleepers, who like a thick comfort layer on top of their sprung core, while the slightly firmer Plush Top is better for stomach sleepers. The sturdy springs are reinforced around the perimeter for enhanced edge support, making it easier to get into and out of bed.
11. The Sheraton Mattress
12. Park Terrace Hotel Bryte Balance Smart Bed
By far one of the most customizable models on the market, the Bryte Balance Smart Bed features Bryte Balancers for active pressure relief, responding to your body's every move to keep you as comfortable as possible. There's a dual comfort design to suit couples who share a bed, but not a sleep style, as well as a Sleep Concierge to analyze your data in the Bryte app.
FAQs
Where can I buy a hotel mattress?
Many of the world's best hotels operate their own online stores, where you can purchase their mattresses as well as their luxury bed linens. If you're looking for another way to elevate your sleep routine, you could explore the best places to buy a mattress. When you shop at Saatva, Nectar, Tempur-Pedic, and more, you get longer sleep trials, extended warranties, and free delivery with each mattress purchase.
What makes a hotel bed special?
The look of a hotel bed is just as important as the way it feels. I asked the bedding stylists at Frette for their tips and tricks to teach us how to make a bed the right way. Then, I asked hoteliers and housekeepers, 'which bedding do luxury hotels use?' They recommended crisp white linens, fluffy comforters and plush pillows.
If you're keen to invest in your sleep, you should consider the best luxury mattress. I've ranked and reviewed six of my favorites from Avocado, Tempur-Pedic, DreamCloud and more for hotel-quality sleep at home.
